Monster Mash (Up)
Last night at The Rivoli there was a major Monster Mash (the monthly Footprints dance party, but all dressed up). DJ “box man” threw down some amazing tunes, including Thriller, of coarse. There were other DJs too: a mad scientist and (wait for it)…Harry Potter! I danced with a giant Listerine bottle, Zach Galifianakis (from The Hangover), a bike lane, some swan-sporting...

Alley as Archive
Whether you like graffiti or not, it cannot be denied that graffiti changes the way a city feels. For me, it makes our cityscape vibrate a little more. It adds life and personality to places that would otherwise feel cold and hostile.
Our visual senses have become numbed by the constant bombardment of advertisements we encounter everyday. Graffiti wakes these senses up again and...
The Good Celebrates Organic Week
Last week Canada celebrated its first National Organic Week (October 11th - 16th). To commemorate this, we have listed some of our favourite spots in the city to buy organic goodies!
4 Life Natural Foods (257 Augusta Ave) was one of the first organic-friendly shops to hit Kensington market, six years ago. Its plywood walls and garage door entrance makes this grocery store feel like a giant...
David Haffos at MoCCA
MoCCA’s current exhibition of living dioramas by David Hoffos is nothing short of magical and inspired. The artist has combined video, sculpture and set design to create living dioramas that each represent a ‘Scene from a House Dream’. The elaborate installation is a fantasy scape of shrunken realities.
My absolute favourite was Barnett Newman (2004), a miniature museum...
Artwork for Anybody
A few nights ago, my brother Blake and I rode our bikes to the corner of Bay and Adelaide in the dark. I wanted to show him the James Turrell light installation in the lobby of the new Bay and Adelaide Centre (completed last July). The air was crisp and the streets of the financial district were wonderfully eerie in their emptiness; the twinkling office towers themselves looked like light...
Fall Fabulous
It’s been a few of years since I have been home for autumn in Canada; and I’ve got to say: WOW! The city is looking great, just in time for Thanksgiving (my favourite holiday). Have a great long weekend!

The Right Kind of Big Screen
Last week I went to see Woody Allen’s Manhatten at The Royal. The theatre was the perfect venue for watching an Allen flick. It feels like a cinema out of one of his films. The art deco architecture and the large deco figurines adorning the screen are reminiscent of a past era, when going to the movies was more like going to the theatre than the amusement park. For the...
Kid Icarus in Kensington Market
The hilarious political puppets featured below are courtesy of Kid Icarus, an inspired paper-goods boutique on Nassau Street in Toronto’s Kensington Market. The small space is brimming with locally made paper treasurers, like hand-printed greeting cards, design-saavy posters and wrapping paper; and handmade papers, buttons, journals and zines. For those of you suffering from pangs of...
