This past weekend, there was a new act in town! Alanna Gurr performed for a small but energetic audience at the TRANZAC on Saturday night. Gurr is currently touring to promote her self-named debut album, which is pictured above.
Gurr’s voice is sweet, soft and textured. Her romantic lyrics promise simple utopias and celebrate the possibilities of friendship and community: “Take the streets, see what people need; make some kids and keep ‘em safe” (Take the Streets); “We stand still here; and we stand still for years” (October); “We’ll go down by the lake and tell stories; find shapes in the stars and get closer” (The Lake).
