As my nearest and dearest know, I’m obsessed with Toronto (obviously), crowns (deep background), crafts (who isn’t?), florals (duh!) and Tavi Gevinson (goddess); so when Toronto-based Petra Collins posted her DIY Crown of Love project on ROOKIE this past winter, I mobilized. Caroline, Chloe, Isabel and myself spent a Saturday evening drinking hot-toddies, eating candy, listening to the Romeo+Juliet soundtrack on repeat and making Crowns of Love. My living room was a mess of fake flowers, hot glue, pom-poms, glitter and fake pearls. We were prolific, each making upwards of four crowns. My first was a beautiful disaster, so laden with crap that it was too heavy to wear; but practice makes perfect, and soon we all had presentable crowns. We were so chuffed with our creations that we went out to show them off. We started in line at The Boat; but soon we abandoned ship (har-har) and opted for the Poetry Jazz Cafe. The night ended at Cold Tea. I love having crafty friends.
